Exercise Supports the Success of Testosterone Therapy

June 10th, 2014

Recent studies show that exercise supports the effectiveness of testosterone therapy.

Last month, presenters at the American Urological Association meeting shed light on the link between exercise and effective testosterone therapy. This research serves to support Renew Man’s™ position that testosterone should never be treated in a vacuum. Instead, treatments should take a “whole man” approach to improving men’s health and well-being through balanced hormone treatments as well as lifestyle changes.

The first study was conducted by Dr. Min Gu Park of Inje University in Seoul, South Korea. Dr. Park’s research team studied 50 men in their 50s and 60s suffering from erectile dysfunction and low total serum testosterone levels under 350 ng/dL. All of the men were given 12 weeks of testosterone therapy. Half of them were also put on an exercise program for 20 weeks. The exercise program consisted of aerobic exercise, strength exercise, and stretching for a total workout of 80 minutes of exercise 3 times per week. At the end of the study, researchers found that total serum testosterone levels were significantly better in the group of men who had exercised.

The second study was conducted by Dr. Ashley Winter of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. Dr. Winter’s research team studied 58 men suffering from low T symptoms such as low sex drive and ED. The men were of similar ages and had similar testosterone and cholesterol levels. They were split into two groups according to whether or not their body mass index categorized them as obese. After 18 to 24 months of testosterone treatment, 54 percent of the obese men had achieved a normal testosterone level, compared to 81 percent of the non-obese men.

These two studies are worth noting because they highlight the relationship between physical fitness and the effectiveness of testosterone therapy. However, they don’t tell the whole story.

In order to be the most effective as well as safe, testosterone replacement therapy should include:

  • Individualized dosages of testosterone tailored to each patient’s needs
  • Safe and effective testosterone delivery method—ideally injections
  • Balancing of other relevant hormones affecting low T symptoms
  • Ongoing lab testing and monitoring to ensure dosages are adjusted as needed during treatment
  • Only bioidentical hormones, not synthetics

At Renew Man™, we can provide quality low T treatments that incorporate all of the above principles. We can also provide expert advice and guidance on how and when to introduce lifestyle changes such as a healthier diet and more physical activity into your treatment program. We even have professional nutritionists and personal trainers in our network who can provide support via virtual counselling services.
