Best Veggies for Healthy Aging

September 29th, 2015

A few suggestions on veggies considered superfoods for healthy aging.

Nutrition is an absolutely essential part of healthy aging. At Renew Man™, we strive to offer men the resources they need to eat right, because we know that they will reap bigger rewards from their testosterone replacement therapy if they are eating a balanced diet.

For example, by losing weight, men can ensure more of their testosterone gets directed to activities like boosting memory, increasing energy levels, and fueling sex drive, rather than being converted into estrogen by enzymes in their belly fat.

If you are looking to eat a healthier diet, you may not know exactly where to start. For example, you probably know you should eat more vegetables, but which ones should you focus on for healthy aging? Well, it’s hard to go wrong with veggies. Just about any vegetable that’s not soaked in cheese or butter will help you with your weight loss goals, and most veggies are packed with vitamins and minerals too.

Be sure to eat a variety of veggies and don’t neglect these 4 which are considered superfoods for healthy aging:

Asparagus: Eating asparagus provides a healthy dose of lycopene, which has been found to protect the prostate and help reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Asparagus also contains Vitamin A to help support eye health and fiber to help reduce cholesterol.

Broccoli: With Vitamins A, C, B9, and K, as well as a high fiber content, broccoli benefits your eyes, red blood cells, immune system, bones, and heart.

Butternut Squash: The lovely orange color of a butternut squash shows that it is brimming with beta-carotene, an essential nutrient for eye health. It also contains vitamin C to support your immune system and plenty of fiber to help keep cholesterol and blood sugar under control.

Kale: If you’re not in the habit of eating a lot of vegetables, try juicing kale so you can drink your veggies instead. Kale offers Vitamin K as well as fiber, lutein, and calcium. Remember, men can suffer from osteoporosis too so getting enough calcium is important.

Try Pickled Veggies Too

Pickled veggies, such as pickles, sauerkraut, and kimchi, may not be as high in nutrients as other vegetables, but they deserve to be included in your diet because of the significant benefits they bring as fermented foods. They can help keep your gut flora healthy, which supports your immune system and helps reduce inflammation. This is extremely important because inflammation is linked to many chronic health conditions affecting older people.
