Do You Live in the “Biscuit Zone?” Take Care to Protect Your Heart

October 19th, 2015

What the type of all-day breakfast offered at your local McDonald’s may suggest about your heart health.

McDonald’s recently made select breakfast items available for noshing at any time of day or night as part of their new “all-day breakfast” promotion. The interesting part of this development is how the fast food giant has tailored their breakfast offerings to the tastes of different regions of the US.

Most of the nation got access to McMuffin sandwiches for their all-day breakfast treat. The typical McMuffin has 300 calories and 12 grams of fat.

But in a cluster of southeast states ranging from Louisiana up though Kentucky and over to North Carolina, breakfast biscuit sandwiches will be on offer. A decadent bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit has a heart-shuddering 450 calories and 26 grams of fat.

Would it surprise you to learn that the same states that get breakfast biscuits also get heart disease? According to a map created from CDC data by CBS News, the “biscuit zone” overlaps closely with the regions of the US with the highest rates of heart disease deaths.

The “biscuit zone” also corresponds closely to the region of the country where Americans have the oldest “heart age” compared to their actual age. Heart age is measured by feeding risk factors such as age, body mass index, blood pressure, smoking habits, and diabetes status into a calculator created as part of the Framingham Heart Study. The bigger the gap between the heart age and the real age, the greater the risk of heart attack or stroke.

All of the top 5 worst states for healthy heart ages fall into the “biscuit zone.” In these states of Mississippi, West Virginia, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Alabama, between 48 and 56 percent of the population have a heart age 5 or more years older than their actual age.

How to Protect Your Heart Health

A predilection for a fatty, heart-unfriendly diet is undoubtedly the main reason for the overlap between the “biscuit zone” and the area of the country most at risk for heart disease. It should be obvious then that one way to close the gap between your heart age and your real age and protect your heart health is to start eating better. Other helpful changes include quitting smoking, getting more exercise, and losing weight.

For even more heart-protective power, you might also want to consider growth hormone stimulation treatment from Renew Man™. This treatment is an excellent way to encourage your pituitary to produce more of the natural growth hormone it needs to repair and renew cells throughout the body. More growth hormone can also improve heart strength, reduce blood pressure, and balance good and bad cholesterol.
