Preventative Maintenance for Your Health

August 6th, 2020

When you own something valuable, it makes sense to take good care of it…so it will perform better for longer.

Think of your car. You change the oil regularly, get the brakes checked, keep the engine tuned up, and you replace worn tires.

Why?

Because when you take care of your car, it works better and lasts longer. And in the long run, it’s a lot less expensive than paying for major repairs…or a totally new car.

That’s what preventive maintenance is all about…taking care of little problems before they become big problems.

Well, your body is valuable too. And it’s the only one you have. It’s literally one of a kind.

And, just like your car, preventative maintenance for your body needs to start sooner rather than later.

How Aging Affects Your Body

After your 20s, your body stops growing and slowly starts to wear out. It’s called aging…and it happens to everyone.

Production of critical hormones…like estrogen and progesterone for women and testosterone for men…begins its slow but steady decline.

The effects can be noticeable by your 30s. It’s harder to stay in shape. You lose muscle mass no matter how much you exercise. Your metabolism begins to slow. It gets harder to lose those extra pounds.

By the time you reach your 40s and 50s, the changes are too big to ignore.

Women on average go through menopause at age 51. However, perimenopause (i.e. the fluctuation and decline of key hormones like estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and thyroid) can begin in a woman’s 40s (or even 30s).

For men, during the 30s, 40s, and 50s the gradual loss of testosterone (and other hormones) reaches a point where the effects are significant and tangible. There’s even a term for it: andropause.

Both men and women experience real problems related to this loss of hormone balance:

  • Lack of energy
  • Problems sleeping
  • Weight gain…especially in the midsection
  • Brain fog and memory loss
  • Irritability and moodiness
  • Loss of interest in sex, as well as sexual problems like ED and vaginal dryness

So what can you do to delay, reduce or even eliminate these aging-related problems?

Your Body’s Preventative Maintenance Program

Most important: don’t wait to take action. If you’re in your 30s or 40s, there are things you can do now to head off bigger problems later.

Even if you’ve reached your 50s or beyond and aging-related issues are rearing their ugly heads, you can still overcome the effects of hormone loss before it’s too late.

Here are a few simple steps:

  1. Get regular exercise
  2. Would you expect your car to run like a top if it just sits in the garage all day? Well, your body can’t just sit on the couch all the time, either.

You don’t need to spend hours and hours in the gym. Just 30 minutes per day of aerobic exercise…like a daily walk or jog…plus a little resistance work and stretching will keep your body in shape.

Don’t wait until the dreaded “spare tire” appears. Establish good exercise habits sooner to avoid problems later.

  3. Pay attention to your diet
  4. Like your car, your body runs better when it gets higher quality fuel.

As early as your 30s it starts to get harder to lose those extra pounds. Better to avoid putting them on in the first place. Your metabolism slowly declines as you get older, so pay attention to portion control. You don’t need to eat an entire pizza anymore.

Focus most of your meals on lean meat (especially chicken and fish) and fresh vegetables. You don’t have to cut out carbohydrates and treats entirely…just limit how much of them you eat.

  5. Get help for your hormones
  6. If your car was low on oil, would you ignore it? Hopefully not! Instead, you make sure it always has the recommended amount…because oil is necessary for your car to run smoothly and not wear out.

Similarly, proper hormone balance is critical for your health. Hormones control how your body runs. What we call “aging” is mostly the effects of declining hormone production in our bodies as we get older.

By restoring balance to your hormones, you can negate and even reverse the aging process. Like a well-maintained “classic” car, you won’t get older…you’ll get better.

At Renew Youth we can help you restore and maintain proper hormone balance as part of your personal “preventive maintenance plan”.
