5 Spices with Health Benefits

November 15th, 2015

Incorporating spices into your diet can protect your health as you age but you still need to balance your hormones.

Adding spices to your food can do a lot more than just enhance the flavor. Many spices actually have valuable health benefits—though typically you would have to consume more than the dash you’d use for seasoning in order to feel the healthful effects.

Here are 5 examples of ingredients that could just as easily belong in the medicine cabinet as in your spice cabinet.

Turmeric: This spice owes most of its health benefits to curcumin, a powerful antioxidant compound that has been found to inhibit tumor growth in preliminary studies. Curcumin is also being studied for its anti-inflammatory properties which may help manage heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s.

Ginger: Adding lots of ginger to your food could provide an extra antioxidant boost. This spice is packed with compounds called gingerols that some experts believe may help fight cancer.

Cinnamon: Eating up to a teaspoon of cinnamon per day may help improve blood sugar control for diabetics. But watch out—the type of cinnamon you want as a health supplement is Ceylon cinnamon, not your typical spice rack cinnamon.

Sage: The very word “sage” means wise, and it turns out there may be some scientific basis for this herb to carry this name. Preliminary research suggests that sage can help support memory and learning by preventing an enzyme from destroying acetylcholine in the brain. This may show promise for helping prevent Alzheimer’s.

Rosemary: Using rosemary in your cooking could help add red meat back to the menu. Researchers have found that when rosemary extracts were added to ground beef, this prevented the cancer-causing compounds that normally appear in grilled, broiled, or fried meat from developing.

Looking for a More Powerful Way to Improve Your Health?

If you are interested in healthy aging, nutrition does play a very important role—but it is by no means the only area you will need to focus on.

You also need to consider how you are going to combat the effects of the hormonal changes that come with menopause. If left unaddressed, these hormonal changes will leave you robbed of the normal healthy effects of estrogen and may result in serious health issues like heart disease, osteoporosis, and certain cancers.

Fortunately, you can restore a youthful balance to your hormones with help from Renew Woman™. Our treatments are proven safe and they deliver much more dramatic results than simply tossing a few extra teaspoons of healthful spices in your food. Contact us at 800-859-7511 now to learn more about our menopause treatment options.
